With the Super Bowl coming up we could only think of one thing. Wiring. Yeah, random, I know. We all enjoy a good football game, but we have a lot to do so why not have a nice quiet day at the shop and be productive? We couldn’t think of any good reason so that is what we did.
The car is really starting to come together. We have a fuel cell that just arrived through our friend Patrick at 23 Deluxe. The Fuel cell is made by Pyrotect and it is perfect. it meets all of SCORE’s rules, but in addition it fits perfectly in the car and holds 15 gallons which is good for about 120-150 miles approximately. We’re ready to have this thing all plumbed in, but… patience… it’s a virtue we’ve been told.
The goal for Superbowl Sunday was wiring and bump stops. Matt Wilson is our resident VW expert and he was heading up the wiring campaign. Matt Fisher had vision for our bump stops so he headed up that front. Evan took control of some of the hardware attachment points and began cranking away.
The wiring is a nice task, starting any wiring project always requires one wire to start, it seems that after that wire you build a rhythm and things start going together nicely. Matt and I worked on wiring for a the full day and got through a lot of the busy work. Another day or so and that thing should be all wired up.
Matt Fisher was making solid progress on the bump stops when one of his welds threw a spark. The spark managed to fly under all his protective gear and skip across his eye. Yeah… HIS EYE! It left a burn on both his upper and lower eyelid and even left a skidmark on his eyeball. Oh man, that was a tense moment, but with Matts vision restored we sent him home and in search of specific eyedrops. He was assigned the task of “going to the doctor.” With the bump stops nearly complete we’ll finish those up on Tuesday.
We’re psyched with the progress, the car is really starting to shape up and we’re hopeful to be driving this around soon. Check back and we’ll have more updates soon.
